It took a lot to get there, but Rich and I just enjoyed a much needed fantastic Mexican getaway. The trip began with the SUV loaded with luggage, kids, and dogs on our 7 hr drive to Missouri. In order to get to Mexico we first had to have childcare for the kids and doggy care for the dogs, as my FIL does not allow children at their place. My sister and bro in law accepted the challenge of the kids, along with some promised help from my parents, who also kept our dogs on their farm.
We've had a very healthy winter, but wouldn't you know that by the time we arrived there all three kids were getting sick. They were ill the entire duration of our trip, making an already big job for my sister even bigger. I had a hard time relaxing because I felt so badly for her and for my kiddos. I have a feeling this might have been the last adult vacation Rich and I get for a long time!
We flew out of KC, and once in Cancun had a 1.5 hr drive South to Akumal.

We ran these beautiful white sand beaches every morning, until morning five when we opted for a jungle walk instead. My calves still ache from running in the sand! Rich is hard core, so he pushed me more than I would have been willing on my own!

Have you ever tasted fresh coconut? It isn't exactly what we are used to! Our shredded coconut is loaded with sugar and all kinds of other garb, so this was interesting to try. The milk inside the yellow part was ok. I could understand drinking that if I was on Survivor. Warning...don't drink the milk inside the inner brown core! It's sour. The Mexican gardener was laughing and telling my friend and I "No beauno," not sure how to spell it, as I don't speak Spanish. He was right. It was no good!

We had good food, good times with new friends and old, walks on the beach, a full moon, snorkeling, kayaking, and time to enjoy each other. Rich was able to dive twice, go fishing, and even saved three ladies' lives. He really did....while risking his own.

Thank you to my MIL for having us! And THANK YOU again to my family for caring for the kids and dogs.

I didn't sleep in once. I never took a nap. BUT, I did get to finish my coffee every morning, and that's something that never happens at home!
Even though I never relaxed in it, this hammock is calling my name already. Looking out the window right now reminds me how much I long for Spring/Summer. At least my body and soul were refreshed for a few days. Until next time.....I'll daydream while viewing photographs.

Your FIL doesn't allow children at his place? That's very strange! Did your kids stay at your family's farm? That sounds like it would be fun for them!
Your vacation sounds HEAVENLY! We need the sun here, so badly! Ocean and sand would be nice, too, but alas, this is the midwest!!! lol!
I'm so glad you had such a nice, refreshing vacation. I'm just sorry the kids were sick making you worry.
The pictures are so great, too.
Honestly? Grandpa doesn't allow his grandkids at his house? Or is that only his vacation home?
I was a little surprised by the no kids at grandpa's, too.
Your vacation looks heavenly! I bet you loved it! Sounds so fun!!
Steph - I don't know if you know WHY dad doesn't want our kids in Mexico. I've discussed this with him in length ~ he believes if we are able to get there - it is supposed to be a true VACATION - time without our kids. He is willing to pay for our time there -a true GIFT, as I'm sure you discovered. We can always choose to vacation elsewhere, WITH our kids. No matter how difficult he can be, he has some goodness in his heart.

That looks just wonderfully relaxing. I could definintly go for some sunshine and warmth. Kids or no kids it sounds great!
I just read your SIL's comment.....sounds like a good reason! :)
P.S. I hope no one was offended by my comment. It wasn't meant to sound abrasive.
It sounds amazing!!! Something the hubby and I surely need.
I wish you would have been able to relax a bit more not worrying about sick kiddos. But I am sure it was still heavenly.
Your pictures are gorgeous.
